The S-Factor Returns

The scientific talent competition is back

It started as a dream about the poetics of molecules and axiomatic hip-hop, evolving into an exciting contest that made waves in the scientific community. 
Dozens entered the 2017 S-Factor, the Davidson Institute’s scientific talent contest, representing diverse stage and science fields, with five finalists performing at the Connecting People to Science convention. 

If you, too, are looking to unleash your inner performer and make science rock, now is the time to join us! Continue reading to find out how to register.

Pre-competition stage:

To apply, send us an original video, up to five minutes in length, of an artistic piece on a scientific topic related to finding order within chaos, the Davidson Institute’s annual theme in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the periodic table of elements. It can be a song, a dance, a stand-up comedy bit, a spoken-word piece, or any other kind of creative performance. A selection committee of scientists, artists, and journalists will watch the videos and pick five for the next stage.

If you want to participate and are super-talented, but the periodic table is just a remote high-school memory, send us a video demonstrating your talent and we will provide you with a scientific mentor.

 Please note: this year the contest is also open to visual arts – sculptures, paintings, installations etc.

What to send? A Youtube link of a short (up to five minutes) video or a sketch/picture of your artistic exhibit.

The competition:

The five chosen performances will be presented at our third annual Connecting People to Science convention, which will be held at the Davidson Institute of Science Education on March 14, 2019.

Contest winners receive a cash prize, a professionally produced video, media attention – and of course, will garner world-wide attention.
The winner will be selected based on creativity, talent and scientific accuracy.

Scientific counselling by the Davidson Institute of Science Education is available to interested contestants.

Participants must be at least 15 years old to enter the contest.

The Davidson Institute's administration reserves the right to change the conditions of the contest and the prize as it sees fit and without advance notice.
